St. Clement’s Secondary School, Gbaiko was a “Child of Necessity” that was borne out of the zeal, passion and compassion to rid the educational system and the societies at large of moral decadence, corruption and other negative vices that have bedeviled it and to bring the desire change, sanity and the true re-branding that our immediate society, Niger State and by extension Nigeria deserves while sustaining the standard and quality that catholic missionary schools are known with. Therefore, the Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese and the Proprietor of all the Catholic schools in Minna Diocese; Most Rev. Dr. Martin Igwemezie Uzoukwo saw the need to establish a formidable and standard missionary secondary school. This missionary Secondary School is what metamorphosed into St. Clement’s Secondary School.
The school was founded on the 10th of October, 2005 and was named after one of the church’s Saints, by His Lordship Most Rev. Dr. Martin Igwemezie Uzoukwu the Proprietor and founder of the school, in commemoration of the first indigenous priest of Minna Diocese - Late Rev. Fr. Clement Mallam who was a native of Shatta village in Bosso Local Area of Niger State. It began teaching and learning activities on the temporary site with only Five (5) Teachers including the Principal, a block of two (2) classrooms and an office and with 35 students comprising 16 boys and 19 girls headed by the pioneer Principal, Rev. Fr. Samuel Sakaba and assisted by Mr. John Tanko Male as Vice Principal.
Due to the continued growth in the students’ enrolment, challenges of inadequate space and facilities to cater for the growing number of students, the school moved to a permanent site on the 13th February, 2006, this was a parcel of land that was acquired for a different missionary project and was converted to the permanent site of the school through the help of the Bishop. In the permanent site, academic activities began with only two (2) blocks of two (2) classrooms and an office on each block with students in JSS 1 and JSS 2.
In 2008, the school registered its first set of students for the Junior School Certificate Examination (JSCE) with Zarumai Model School Minna because at that time, the school was yet to secure a proper approval for an examination Centre with National Examination Council (NECO). While in 2009, after series of visitations and inspections by the Zonal Directorate of Education Minna for Advisory and Preliminary Provisional Approval, an approval was finally given to the school to certify that the school had fulfilled the requirements to register her students for the Junior School Certificate Examination with NECO. And the school registered her students and hosted her first Junior School Certificate Examination (JSCE) conducted by National Examination Council (NECO) in 2009. Again, on the 20th of January 2009, a Provisional Approval Grant was given to the school by the Niger State Ministry of Education (Headquarters) certifying that the school had fulfilled the requirements to host Senior School Certificate Examinations.
The 18th of June 2009 ushered in the appointment of the academic and infrastructural development juggernaut- Rev. Fr. Gabriel Nelson Onuh as the New Principal of the school by the Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Martin Igwemezie Uzoukwu, to take over from Rev. Fr. Samuel Sakaba. On assumption into office, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Onuh adjusted and implemented a lot of policies for the smooth running of the school viz; he created the offices of the Vice Principal Administration and Academics, administrative secretary, Bursar, Departmental Heads and spectacularly he adjusted the resumption time of both staff and students from 8:00am to 7:30am to arrest the alarming lateness to school by both staff and students.
Rev. Fr. Nelson Gabriel Onuh, since his assumption of duty as principal, the school has made tremendous giant strides and has also sustained a continued growth in the physical structures, staff strength and number of students. The school runs concurrent day and boarding sections since September 2010 and is open for admission to both girls and boys, junior and senior students from all backgrounds. At the moment, the school has over Seventy (90) Academic and Non-Academic staff, over Twenty (20) classrooms, Administrative building and with over Five Hundred (600) students as against Five (5) Teachers, a block of two (2) classrooms and an office and 35 students as at when the school started.
